Paul focuses on the positive in vs. 13 of Colossians 3 by explaining to the Colossians how they can put on “compassionate hearts” as he described in vs. 12. Namely, by bearing with others and by forgiving others. All of this is possible because of the forgiveness received by Christ. Thus, forgiving others is the means by which Christians actively embody the Gospel in their lives.
